Matcha Green Tea Plantation and Matcha Factory Visit

3h30
About this activity

We prepared two different time slots, a morning tour and an afternoon tour.

The morning tour starts at 9AM at the Hotel Granvia Kyoto in the JR Kyoto Station building, and you will transfer by train to the Uji region in the southern part of Kyoto. The name Uji is known as the place for its quality matcha plantation and factory like Scotland for Scotch whiskey as it were.

At around 10AM in Uji, you will visit one of the oldest tea plantations in Kyoto and its matcha factory, where you will experience the handling of green tea mill and tasting of the most expensive matcha with Japanese sweets at the traditional tea hut. You will also have a chance to learn how to incorporate the habit of drinking green tea into your daily life back in your country. After knowing deeply about tea, you can enjoy shopping of green tea or tea utensils which are hard to come by in other parts of Japan. Tea ceremony is not performed in this program since the main aim of this tour is to know deeply about the benefits of matcha itself with the in-detail explanation by professionals from the tea plantation with the guide.

At around 12:30 in the afternoon, the tour ends after returning back to Kyoto Station.

Time slot of the afternoon tour is; starting at Kyoto Station at 1PM, visiting matcha plantation in Uji at 2PM and tour ends at around 4:30PM with the same contents as the morning tour.

If your interested in the process of how tea plants are grown, tea is made and enjoying the final product this is definitely worthwhile. We were shown the small tea plantation crop, explained the history of Matcha and the varieties of plants. Shown how it is manufactured and the creme de la creme a tea ceremony back at the store. Fantastic couple, great history of their company, and the best matcha tea I have tasted. A fantastic tour.
