Seminar of Japanese Traditional Paper, Karakami, on Noh stage

1h30
About this activity
Itinerary

Since it was established in 1624, Karacho has produced karakami (Tang Paper), traditional Japanese paper printed with woodblocks, for fusuma sliding.

Karacho’s artistry has expressed the beauty of Japanese culture through wallpaper and sliding door paintings that have graced cultural treasures including Katsura Imperial Villa, Nijo Castle, and Yogen-in—as well as modern interiors, and all of their karakami have been hand-printed on Japanese washi papers with the woodblocks handed down from generation to generation.

In this seminar, you will know the world and secret of karakami with videos and actual materials.
The seminar will be held on a Noh stage in English, and you can also enjoy the exhibition of Noh costumes with the explanation by Noh actor, Michiharu Wakebayashi.
