Campesino Tour + Danaus Ecocenter

Just 5 minutes from downtown La Fortuna, we find Ecocenter Danaus, a very interesting project located in a protected area. Here, we will walk along a circular trail of 600 meters, to observe the rich flora and fauna, such as sloths, iguanas, insects, butterflies, caiman, and a large variety of birds. In Ecocenter Danaus we will also find the Maleku House, where we can learn a little about the Maleku Indian tribe and their culture. This tribe is indigenous to the northern region of Costa Rica. Some other attractions include the frog natural reproduction area, the butterfly garden with more than 40 colorful species, a natural wetland, a medicinal plant garden exhibit, a native tree nursery, and more. At the end of this journey, we will stop to enjoy a delicious snack of fresh fruit to re-energize. Afterwards, we will take a short 30 minute drive to a small town called La Tigra, where we will find Los Toños Family Farm. Once we arrive, we will learn about the daily lifestyle of a typical Costa Rican farm family, their customs, traditions, and daily chores to maintain their farm. Next, we will tour the property through the plantations of products like black pepper, vanilla, yucca, coffee, banana, corn, and many other traditional crops. Then we will continue to a small patch of rainforest in the process of regeneration where we will discover many interesting species of plants and trees. Finally, we will enjoy a delicious lunch of fresh products from the farm prepared on a wood burning stove for the most authentic Costa Rican flavor, before returning to La Fortuna in the late afternoon.
