The supplier was Strawberry Travel Bolivia and I telephoned them on the day of the tour as it was to commence at 3 p.m., to last three-and-a-half hours. I asked to start at 2 p.m. as there was a lot to pack in, the highlight for me being the cable car, and I did not want to return in the dark but was assured leaving at 3 p.m. I would be back at the hotel before dark. NO! The guide and driver were excellent BUT I made it clear I did not want to visit the markets to save time. We started at Killi Killi, then Murillo Square, then Witches' Market, then Moon Valley, then the cable car. Unfortunately for me, by the time we arrived at the cable car it was rush hour and the sun was just setting. We shuffled up two flights of stairs in the crush and boarded the car. I was facing the mountain with snow Grandfather? as the rays of the sun slowly turned the snow pink. What a lovely photo it would have made - had I been allowed to stand up in the car which I was not. Upon arrival at El Alto the sun had set and all I could see were the twinkling lights - yes, attractive in itself but NOT the panoramic view I wanted to capture on my camera. VERY disappointing and annoying as this writer knew the timings of the sun better than the local supplier! I just wish I had insisted that we start the tour with the cable car ride. My guide, Marcelo, was aware of my disappointment and annoyance but I doubt he raised the issue with the supplier. When I re-read the itinerary for the tour it seems that in addition to the markets I did not see San Francisco church or San Pedro prison, perhaps because they were near the markets? I was returned to my hotel at 7.15 p.m.
