About this activity
This tour begins at either 10am or 3pm in San Francisco Square. You will meet in front of the San Francisco Church where our guides wear and orange and beige vest with our logo on the back. Your guide will then teach you about the traditions, customs, and secrets of La Paz.

See historic San Francisco Church, which was built by early Franciscans, and visit the Lanza and Rodriguez markets to wander the colorful stalls. At the creepy but popular Witches Market, see traditional products that are used in witchcraft for healing, health, and ceremonies, and when standing inside of Plaza Murillo—the city's central square—admire the soaring La Paz Cathedral as well as the Presidential Palace.

The 3-hour tour concludes on the beautiful colonial Jaen Street, where after saying goodbye to your guide and thanking them for the history and tales, you can go to a coffee shop and purchase a beer made from coca or quinoa and continue exploring around town.

Andy (Andrea) was our tour guide and she was excellent. The tour was a small group (6) which is excellent. We started in front of the San Francisco Church, where Andy explain the history of the church, government, and why the witches market is behind the church, We then walked thru the Witches Market stopping at a local store where Andy explain the history of Pachamama how it fits into the native lives in the past and present. We continued to walk thru the witches market and stopping along the way to one of the open markets where we viewed the wide variety of foods and spices available. Andy convinced me to try a sugar apple and boy it was terrific I doubt that I can find them in the States but it was excellent. We continued our walk thru the other relevant areas of La Paz such as the San Pedro Prison, Plaza Murillo and finally a wonderful walk along the Calle Jean with Andy explaining the significance and history of each stop along the way and how current events affect the citizens of Bolivia (the clock running the other direction is interesting for sure). I could not have had a better guide than Andy. Bravo...

Fantastic tour and a fantastic guide Kari! You will learn a lot about La Paz, its history, daily life, and all other aspects you might want to ask in those 3 hours on your walking tour through La Paz. It was our first tour since we arrived in Bolivia, and at the end of our 10-day stay, we took another tour offered by the same company - Cable car tour of La Paz with Valeria a fantastic and very knowledgeable guide. Those two tours complement each other in a way that you feel that you really start to know this interesting and beautiful city. Taking these tours is so much more valuable in comparison to reading a particular brochure or a tourist book. You see and learn all through the eyes of real La Paz citizens who love their country, understand the past and give you a personal touch of their town. 3 hours per each tour pass like a breeze! Highly recommended.

Very informative. Jorge spoke excellent English and guided us from San Francisco Plaza to the Witches market, San Pedro prison, Plaza Murillo, where all the government buildings are located and Calle Jaen. Jorge was very knowledgeable about Bolivian history, culture and traditions. We particularly enjoyed hearing about the unique San Pedro prison. We finished up at Loki hostel where we made and drank a Bolivian cocktail. I would definitely recommend this walking tour to any visitors to La Paz.
