Temperatures here can be much higher than in La Paz, which is often a welcome change for those traveling in the Altiplano. Several smaller canyons spur off to the sides and offer a unique environment to hike in, as the narrow canyons wind and twist into the silence.
The occasional presence of water creates lush oases of moss and deep green plants that starkly contrast the rock.
We cook a hearty lunch in the canyon and spend the day exploring, hiking and enjoying this unique and surreal environment.

Beautiful area. Guide was wonderful!
I cannot emphasize enough how much I enjoyed the Palca Canyon Tour from La Paz. My guide, who happened to be the owner of the company, was awesome! The pre-tour communication was great, and the owner even provided me with recommendations/suggestions on things to do in Bolivia after the tour! I was the only person booked the day that I went on the tour. Since it was just the two of us, the hike was a bit strenuous at times, but nothing I couldn't handle. And with that being said, they are certainly able to gauge your fitness level and accommodate accordingly. The scenery in Palca Canyon is absolutely beautiful. And, for the most part, it's not as known or popular as some of the other hikes in the area - for example, Moon Valley. As such, it's so much easier to just enjoy the surroundings and nature.

Highly recommend if you like hiking and are in good physical condition. We had a great time and enjoyed the day. I'm 68 and my wife is 65. We arrived in LaPaz that morning and went on the hike only a few hours later. The high altitude was not an immediate problem. Apparently there is a window of 5-8 hours after arrival.
