Bird Watching Guided Half-Day Tour from Lanzarote

Half Day
About this activity
For birders, Lanzarote can offer if not quantities, than definitely some very interesting species.

Equipped with a reliable Landrover, several pairs of binoculars and a telescope, you'll then enter the desert of Soo. This is home to the houbara bustard, cream colored courser and stone curlew to name the big 3. Journeying towards the heart of the desert and you'll hopefully encounter many surprises on the way, including lesser short-toed larks, trumpeter finches, hoopoes and occasionally a kestrel or the spectacular Egyptian vulture. It is common to meet goat herds in Soo with the loyal company of numerous cattle egrets.

The trip will be a pleasant experience even for non birding companions, who may admire the different exotic landscapes and enjoy the 4x4 ride.

Enjoyed the birds that our guide Karen found for us to see. Also really impressed with her knowledge and enthusiasm for conservation of the desert area of Lanzarote.. we learnt so much. Would recommend this tour to everyone who has an interest in the natural world.

Excellent value with an experienced guide. With the type of terrain it is extremely difficult to spot the birds and there is no doubt the guides ability makes it possible. Saw loads of bustard, including one displaying, various other smaller birds. Interesting, informative and highly recommended.

This was an excellent tour and highly recommended. You do not have to be a fanatic bird watcher to go. The guide was amazing and knew just where to go to find the birds. His knowledge was excellent and he made the trip very enjoyable and did not rush to finish the tour. He answered all questions and was very friendly and helpful. We cannot recommend this trip highly enough.

I'm so glad I booked this trip. Carmen picked me up from my hotel and we picked up 2 others. Carmen was so knowledgable about the island, giving me some tips of where to take my wife and boys during the rest of our stay. As for the birds...great. It was a little windy which was always going to make things a little difficult. Still we had great views of the 2 birds I really wanted to see. Houbara Bustard and Cream-coloured Courser. Seeing multiple birds. Stone Curlew great view, Barbary Partridge distant but still a first, Hoopoe, Cattle Egret, Linnet, Southern Grey Shrike, Berthelot's Pipit, Lesser Short-toed Lark.... I'm a keen wildlife photographer, so took my camera with 100-400mm. I didn't expect to get any decent images, more just record shots, as it isn't a photography trip....but was surprised to get a few really good images. This trip is certainly not just for keen birders, one of the women in the 4x4 just fancied a trip out and she loved it. We all had a really good trip with plenty of laughs, with a stop off in a local centre for freshly made Croquettes and a brew. Hopefully we'll return to Lanzarote next year and this time I'll book a couple of trips out with Carmen and the team.

We had a great Bird Watching half day on this tour. The Land Rover was well driven and the guides knowledge of the desert terrain and the location of the birds was excellent. The vehicle was pleasantly cool in the heat and quite comfortable . The viewing of the birds was difficult as they were well camouflaged on the ground, and the spotter and driver made the task much easier. They were even able to follow the birds which did not seem to worry about the vehicle. This was an excellent trip and I hope to attach some photos of some of the 26 varieties seen, not for the quality of the photos, taken with a compact Panasonic Lumix TZ60, but to show the camouflage of the birds.
