Stop At: Eldorado Canyon Mine Tours, Nelson, Nevada

The Techatticup Mine Tour is one-hour and 0.25 miles long on gravel that is only one level. This is the oldest mine, and richest, in Southern nevada from 1861 to 1945, where you will see the quartz veins the gold and silver were mined from. The name “Techatticup” derives from the Paiute Indian word for hungry, a term often heard by early settlers from the starving Indians inhabiting the Dry Hills.

Duration: 1 hour

Stop At: Nelson's Landing Cliff Jumping, Nelson, Nevada

Nelson’s Landing in the early 1900’s was one of the largest ports on the Colorado River and it became more important in the 1920’s when Prohibition was enacted and the building of the Hoover Dam. Nelson’s Landing is now known as a local getaway for cooling down in the river during the hot summer months. Many locals know this area as Nelson’s Landing Cliff Jumping due to the various vertical cliffs that line the Colorado River. The cliffs range from a few feet to seventy feet.

Duration: 2 hours

Stop At: Nelson Ghost Town, Nelson, Nevada

During the late 1800’s, Nelson was extremely remote at the time with the nearest law enforcement in Hiko, NV about 200 miles away. This created lawlessness in true Wild West fashion with many prospectors being Civil War deserters with Renegade Indians hiding out in the canyons. After some time, the minors formed factions between Northern and Southern sympathizers which led to more feuding in the canyon, and killings, which at one point was everyday. There was a renegade Indian named “Queho” (pronounced Key-Ho) who was reportedly Nevada’s first serial killer near the area whose last killing was near the Techatticup Mine in 1919. Nelson was rebuilt after 50 years of inactivity with many buildings being restored to resemble the old mining town. Nelson was also used for two motion pictures, both starring Kurt Russell, Breakdown (1997) & 3000 miles to Graceland (2001). Since then, Nelson has been a destination for wedding photography, photo shoots, and a historical stop on the way to the Colorado River.
