About this activity

Don't miss the opportunity to learn more about Lecce's cuisine during your stay in the city. Visit the central market with a local and professional guide and stop in different places to taste all main delicacies. A sweet and interesting walking tour is waiting for you!

The guide will take you to the close fruit and vegetables market to smell, see and taste the real raw flavors of Salento: you will be amazed by the colors and smells of local fruits and vegetables.

After this starter, walk along Libertini street and enjoy a second memorable experience, stop at a Pucceria. What "puccia" is? It is a hot, round-shaped baked bread stuffed with marinated vegetables, cheese, ham and mozzarella: a true dream!

After that you'll need to exercise, so why not take a walk along the unique rococo-style Palmieri street famous for its historic buildings? Once in St. Oronzo Square, sample one of the most famous Leccese food, the "rustico", a round-shaped vol au vent of pastry flake stuffed with mozzarella, béchamel, tomato and pepper: a bliss!

But you cannot end a street food tour in Lecce without the “pezzetti di cavallo”. Pezzetti di cavallo is an Italian delicacy, tender pieces of horse meat cooked in a delicious, local tomato sauce. You must try this authentic dish to really experience Italian cuisine, so head out to a local Putea (tavern) to taste it! This incredible dish needs two other things: bread for the tomato sauce, and a full glass of strong local red wine.

After this, you will be full and satisfied... but you are in Italy! If you stop there, you will miss the sweetest moment of the day: a relaxing last visit to a local cafeteria after lunch to end the tour with Italian espresso, the tasty Pasticciotto (a round-shaped sweet made of pastry dough stuffed with lemon custard) and Cotognata (quince jam). What else? In Southern Italy, maybe just a good nap!
