About this activity
The tour takes you from your hotel or any previously designated starting point in León city to the San Jacinto Mud Fields, located 20km northeast from León.
In San Jacinto, you will be able to see fumaroles and boiling mud holes connected to the Telica volcano. These are known to be volcanic fields that serve as breathing holes for the nearby volcanoes, which form the Maribios chain and help to prevent future eruptions.
The guide will take you for a walk around the holes; they differ in size and color, and be aware of how the mud is boiling, the little rocks in the air and steam the fumaroles throw out sometimes.
In the area, you'll also find locals selling indigenous ceramics and handmade figurines made from the volcanic mud.
The tour continues with a visit to a local family from San Jacinto, who will have you participate in the traditional process of tortilla making. You'll assist your host by cooking the tortilla on a wood stove and you'll get to enjoy the fruits of your labors afterward.
The tour finishes with the drop-off in your hotel or the designated departure point area in León.
