See Nicaraguas most impressive bubbling crater! In the morning, we meet at the Quetzaltrekkers office, pack our backpacks and enjoy a hearty breakfast prepared by the guides. We then take public transport to reach the small rural village of El Panal where we begin our hike. Our trail winds towards the rocky western slope of the volcano, offering numerous opportunities to spy Nicaraguas national bird, the Guardabarranco, perching high on majestic Guanacaste trees. Continuing through gently inclined, shaded forest for about 4 hours, we then tackle a challenging rocky slope to reach the crater. Finishing the ascent, we are rewarded with a view that will make your head spin. Not only do we peer into Telicas 120m deep, lava-filled crater, but we also witness amazing panoramas of the volcanoes San Cristbal, Cerro Negro, Momotombo, and the Las Pilas-El Hoyo complex. After setting up camp just below the crater, we enjoy a warm dinner by the campfire and return to the crater in the night to see the best possible views of the lava. The next morning, we rise early for a 15-minute climb up a ridge offering beautiful sunrise vista. We return to camp and eat breakfast before we begin our descent down the steep southern slope of the volcano. Crossing through the jungle, then corn and bean fields near the volcn Santa Clara, we walk towards the small town of San Jacinto where we visit the villages famous Hervidores boiling mud pools caused by the subterranean lava flow of the Telica volcano. After eating lunch in a local comedor, we return to Len around 2 pm.
