Day 1 Arriving Lhasa

Upon arrival in Lhasa, you will be met at Gongar airport and transferred to your hotel for some good rest and acclimation. You may explore nearby area at your own leisure.

Day 2 Lhasa (B)

The awe-inspiring Potala Palace, perched high above much of Lhasa, is the landmark of the city. The palace is consists of the Red Palace, the White Palace, and some attached buildings that use to be a complex of political and religious functions. Today, Potala Palace is a huge treasure house for relics and articles of Tibetan history, religion, culture and arts. Later, visit the spiritual center of Tibet, Jokhang Temple, which is located at the center of the old Lhasa. Built in 647 by Songtsen Gampo, it has a history of more than 1,300 years.

Day 3 Lhasa (B)

After breakfast, enjoy your city tour that starts with a visit to Drepung Monastery, then continue your tour to Norbulingka and Sera Monastery in the afternoon. 

Day 4 Lhasa - Gyangtse - Shigatse (B)

Today, you will drive to Shigatse in the morning. Make a stop on your way there to take in the view for of majestic Yamdrok Lake which is one of the three holiest lakes in Tibet. It is located 62 miles (100 km) southwest of Lhasa and surrounded by Mt. Kampala, Mt. Nyinchenkhasa, Mt. Chetungsu, and Mt. Changsamlhamo. The holy lake is a pilgrimage site for Tibetans. Every summer, groups of pilgrims trek there to pray and receive blessings. Befitting its religious importance, the turquoise blue lake has indescribable scenic beauty prompting the Tibetans to compare it with a fairyland in Heaven.

Then, continue your visit to Palkhor Monastery and Kumbum Stupa in Shigatse which is located 155 miles (250 km) southwest of Lhasa at an altitude of 12,598 feet (3,840 meters) and the second largest city in Tibet with a population of 80,000. Shigatse used to be the capital of the area known as Hou-tsang on the Nepal border. Later, you will head to Palkhor Monastery, a monastery with the characteristics of Han, Tibetan and Nepali architecture, that is located 62 miles (100 km) east of Shigatse. It enjoys a high status in Tibet Buddhism history because it houses three different sects of Tibetan Buddhism: Sakyapa, Kadampa, and Gelugpa.

Day 5 Shigatse - Lhasa (B)

Today, after a visit to Tashilhunpo Monastery in the morning, you will be driven back to Lhasa by coach.

Day 6 Departing Lhasa (B)

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Gongar Airport where your 6 days Sunlight City tour concludes.
