About this activity
Day 1:

Upon your arrival to the airport or railway station in Lhasa, you will be transferred to your hotel. Depending on the time of your arrival, a short orientation walk in the area around your hotel will be provided.

Day 2:

Explore the highlights of Tibetan capital starting from Potala Palace. The exotic 13-story structure contains more than 1,000 rooms and is divided in two sections. The White Palace built in mid-17th century provided living quarters for 5th- through 14th Dalai Lamas. From White Palace pilgrims climb to central Red Palace, which was completed in late 17th century and packed with chapels, ornate statues, and gem-embellished tombs of past Dalai Lamas. The 5th Dalai Lama's tomb, made from two tons of gold, stands three stories tall.

Afterwards visit Tibet’s holiest shrine, Jokhang Temple, which is over 1,300 years old and holds one of Tibet's most venerated images, a solid gold statue of Sakyamuni Buddha. End your day with a walk around Barkhor area filled with thousands of pilgrims, shops and tea houses to relax and unwind.

Day 3:

Start excursion by visiting Norbulingka, built as a summer palace for Dalai Lama. After, visit Drepung Monastery that used to be the residence of Dalai Lamas before the Potala Palace was built.

After lunch visit Sera Monastery, known as one of three great Gelukpa university monasteries in Lhasa, it is here that monks spend afternoons practicing their debating skills. Debates among monks on Buddhist doctrines are integral to the learning process in colleges of the Sera Monastery complex.

On your departure day you will be provided with transfer back to the airport or railway station and any time.

  • If you do not already have a Chinese visa, you must get one before the local tour operator can start the process of getting your Tibet travel permit; to obtain a Chinese visa, you will need an 'invitation letter,' which the tour operator can give you
  • If you have a Chinese visa, your booking must be made at least 20 days in advance of the travel date; upon booking, contact the tour operator immediately so they can start the process of obtaining your Tibet travel permit and flights
  • If you do not yet have a Chinese visa, your booking must be made at least 30 days in advance of the travel date so there is enough time for you to obtain your Chinese visa before the tour operator can start the process of getting your Tibet travel permit
  • Please note: If you already have a Chinese visa but it's not an 'L' tourist visa, then you need to provide supplementary letters from your sponsored organization; please contact the local operator for more details
