About this activity
Combine the fun adventure of hiking in Rincon de la Vieja National Park, by one of Costa Ricas most active volcanoes, and swimming at a beautiful rainforest waterfall. See our Horseback riding tour to the Oropendula Waterfall and Rincon de la Vieja National Park for another fun option to this tour. From Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin, we will walk 45 minutes on a scenic forest trail to the Las Pailas entrance of the Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The Las Pailas area, which means the Cauldrons in Spanish, spectacularly shows off the awesome power of the Rincn de la Vieja Volcano, the largest and most active volcano in Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Steaming fumaroles, mini-geysers and bubbling volcanic mud pits give you an incredible experience like no other volcano in Costa Rica. With our bilingual naturalist guide, you will hike the Las Pailas loop trail 2.5 miles (3.5 km) through dry tropical forest to see the best views of the volcano, incredible nature, volcanic activity and wildlife. The park is home to more than 300 bird species, and other animals like armadillos, collared peccaries, iguanas, snakes, white-nosed coatis, and white-faced, howler and spider monkeys. When you finish your hike, youll be ready for a refreshing swim in the Oropendula Waterfall. It is a short walk from the national park entrance on a trail with varying terrain to get down to the river bottom. You also will walk a short distance in the river to reach the falls. The Oropendula Waterfall spills an impressive 82 feet (25 meters) down to a bright turquoise pool in the picturesque lush canyon of the Rio Blanco (White River). After a relaxing time at the waterfall, our day tour in Guanacaste finishes with the walk back to Hacienda Guachipelin.
