The park is part of the huge Guanacaste Conservation Area, declared by UNESCO as World Heritage Site for its cultural, historical and scientific significance. Ten unique natural habitats are within ithe park, which covers an area of approximately 495 square kilometers (190 square miles). They include savannas, deciduous forest, marshlands, and mangrove flood lands. Fauna includes the boa imperator, coyotes, peccaries, white-nosed coatis, Baird's tapirs, sea turtles, and terrestrial turtles. The three species of monkey are Geoffroy's spider monkey, mantled howler and white-headed capuchin. Several cat species are also present: jaguarundi, ocelot, cougar and jaguar, but they are rarely seen. Around 250 bird species and 115 mammal species are found within the park.
After registration at the park entrance, we will continue our drive to "La Casona,", an old hacienda building that functions as the monument commemorating the fallen heroes of the different battles that took place here in 1856. After short a visit to this historical site and its museum we will continue our drive for approximately 30 minutes on a gravy road. We will stop for short hike in the tropical dry forest where we visit a spot from where we will enjoy an awesome panoramic view of the coastline and the famous “Roca Bruja” (Witch’s Rock).

We continue driving to Playa Naranjo, a beach that stretches out for approximately 8 kilometers, There is a 2.5 kilometer hike through the mangrove forest where we might spot crocodiles that ends in front of the Witch’s Rock. We return to the common area by the beach to enjoy a delicious pick-nick that includes fresh tropical fruits, homemade bread and natural drinks.
