About this activity
Visit: Villa Cavrois, 60 avenue du President Kennedy, 59170 Croix France

Make your own way to the Villa Cavrois in Croix and use your pre-paid ticket to skip the line and enjoy priority access. Once inside, set out on a self-guided tour and spend as long as you like exploring the magnificent castle.

First designed in 1929 and finished in 1932, the Villa is a family home created by the architect Robert Mallet-Stevens, a member of the Modernist movement. He was commissioned by Paul Cavrois, a textile industrialist from Roubaix and his wife.

The Villa follows a precise schema bringing together all the most advanced technologies of the period and was something of an aesthetic shock, the effects of which are still perceptible today.

All the interior was furnished using luxurious materials such as marble, exotic wood and polished aluminium. The furniture was designed by Mallet-Stevens who also devised the layout of the park. The very latest techniques were used. The furniture was sold off following the death of Maame Cavrois in 1986 and the Villla itself was sold in 1987. After standing abandoned for a long period during which it was vandalised, it was bought by the State in 2001, which has undertaken a vast campaign to save and restore the Villa to how it originally looked in 1932.

Thirteen years were needed to restore the villa and park to their original state of 1932. This exceptional project required specialised historical and archaeological research, and mobilised the expertise of highly skilled craftsmen to reproduce the designs of Mallet-Stevens as faithfully as possible.
