Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Stop At: Cantagallo, Lima District 15093, Peru

Your guide will pick you up from your hotel at 9:30am (possibility to start later if you’re the first one to book) and together you’ll head past the historical center of Lima to the neighborhood where the Shipibo-Konibo have settled (about 45 minutes with usual traffic). You will get to meet two Shipibo-Konibo families today. On the first visit, you’ll learn more about their culture, traditions and recent history before starting the first workshop in Kené. Kené was declared National Cultural Heritage in 2008 and refers to geometric patterns painted or embroidered on the face or body, ceramics or textiles. The designs of kené represent energy or positive force. For the workshops you can choose 2 from the following 4 options:
- Kené textile painting: You will learn how to paint kené on a small cloth
- Kené embroidery: You will learn how to embroider kené on a small cloth
- Kené body painting: You will learn how to do kené body painting
- Jewelry: You will learn more about another Shipibo-Konibo art style: their typical beadwork

After the first workshop, you will go to the second stop where the hostess will tell a bit more about the Shipibo-Konibo’s current reality before serving lunch. You’ll get the chance to ask more questions while enjoying a typical (and delicious!) dish. After lunch, you will learn more about another Shipibo-Konibo art technique in the second workshop of your choice.

The workshops are accompanied by Ikaro singing, medicine songs usually performed by shamans in healing ceremonies. It gives the workshops the right atmosphere, as you are learning about the ancient and spiritual art forms which are really important to this indigenous people.

For both workshops, you can take your own work home as a reminder of your day with the Shipibo-Konibo of Lima.

Your guide and driver will drop you back off at your hotel around 3:30pm (exact time will depend on traffic).

Duration: 4 hours
