Caral The Oldest city in America day trip

Caral city was developed simultaneously with the ancient cultures of mesopotamia and Egypt about 5000 years ago. Caral was a civilisation that existed much earlier than the Incas. This stunning heritage site can be found in the north of Lima. It's monumental architecture and history make this place so unique. 

Caral is one of the most impressive ruins int he country and it is very easy to visit from Lima as it is just a few hours away. The UNESCO World Heritage listed site covers an area of around 60 hectares in the arid Supe Valley and was first inhabited between 2600 BCE and 2000 BCE.

The 5000-year-old 626-hectare archaeological site of The Sacred City of Caral - Supe is situated on a dry desert terrace overlooking the green valley of the Supe river. It dates back to the Late Archaic Period of the Central Andes and is the oldest centre of civilization in the Americas. Exceptionally well-preserved, the site is impressive in terms of its design and the complexity of its architectural, especially its monumental stone and earthen platform mounts and sunken circular courts.

This is one of Latin America’s foremost historical attractions, the Ancient city of Caral should not be missed while visiting Peru.
