Wow! What a great piece of history to see here in Lima. The Huaca Pucllana was built to withstand earthquakes & stands today where many younger houses cannot.
Duration: 1 hour
Stop At: Centro Historico de Lima, Lima Peru
A visit to Lima's Plaza Mayor is absolutely breathtaking! Where to look first...? The large green space has a decorative fountain as its center piece and surrounded by fabulous buildings including but not limited to: the Cathedral of Lima, Archbishop's Palace, Municipal Palace of Lima, Club of the Union and Government Palace. Ceremonial guard units of the Peruvian Armed Forces are stationed at the Government Palace and participate in the daily Changing of the Guard ceremony which is fun to watch. Each building is a stand out, decorative, unique and with a story to tell. Take the time to study them and be sure to tour inside the cathedral.
Duration: 30 minutes
Stop At: Iglesia y Convento de San Francisco, Plaza San Francisco Jirón Lampa y Ancash, Lima 15001 Peru
The church is a beautiful Baroque structure, but adorned with Andalusian-inspired geometrical art. The convent patio and its blue tiles is a jewel. The catacombs are quite extensive a labyrinthine. Quite an adventure for teens, assuming they keep together and follow the signs!
Duration: 30 minutes
Pass By: Cathedral of Lima, Jiron Carabaya Plaza de Armas de Lima, Lima 15001 Peru
The Cathedral of Lima is right on the Plaza de Armas and is not to be missed! There is so much to see. There are several chapels running down both sides of the cathedral that are just breathtaking! You can also go down into at least 2 small cypts, and you can climb up to a small manuscripts room too. There are lots of displays in side galleries with priest vestments, silver, paintings...lots of stuff. And don't miss Pizarro's tomb, that's pretty cool. We really enjoyed visiting the Cathedral.
