The Ballestas are amazing - and what you'd expect motoring amid crashing waves, viewing tens of thousands of Guanay Cormorants, Sea Lions, Humboldt Penguins and Blue-footed Boobies. The islands reek of ammonia from the guano. The downsides: throngs of tourist-filled boats jockeying for position, and no ability to step foot onto the islands. Huacachina is massive, and if you've never seen a desert, will be impressive, and fun. The dune buggy veers Mad Max-like for a 30-40-minute joy ride with a chance to 'snowboard' on your stomach down sand dunes. Although it's fun, it feels utterly manufactured for tourism. The 'oasis' is an aggressive tourist-catching machinery made up of two dozen buildings blocking your view of the actual water, manned by aggressive hucksters selling water and sunglasses, and marring what should be a pristine environment, given the fact that it's one of the only true desert oases in the Americas. For the nature aspects of the experience, I give it 4 stars. For the tourism machine, 2 stars.

It was not a private pick as it was stated. The tour guide did not explain again. It also was 7 hours in a van. The driver took back streets to get back and based on google maps he was going in circles. It would be faster to take the main roads. The description of the tour was not accurate and it should state the times between activities and how time at each activity. Most of the time was driving from place to place not doing the activity

We had such a great time on this tour. The tour guide and driver were both a lot of fun and very flexible in letting us decide how much time we wanted to spend on activities. Definitely recommend this as a day trip from Lima for anyone who wants to see more of the coast.
