About this activity
The Trip:
It is primarily an exploration trip of the stone-built village of Omodos (that has developed around the historic monastery of the Holly Cross) and of Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge, just inside the expansive Paphos Forest. Depending on travellers’ preferences and time availability, there may be possibilities to do a walk in Platy Valley to Kelephos bridge (when walkers are lucky, they encounter moufflon there), have a meal at a village restaurant or visit other attractions on the way (depending on pickup location).
Duration : Six, Eight or Ten hours, depending on package selection
Pickup time : To be agreed with the travellers. Usually it is between 08:30 and 09:30.
Pickup location : At an agreed place (eg hotel, port, etc) usually in Limassol or Paphos. It can be at other cities or resorts (eg Nicosia, Larnaca, Pissouri, even Protaras or Agia Napa). From Agia Napa or Protaras the trip would make sense if the duration is 8 or 10 hours, as, due to the significant distance, there is considerable time to be spent in the car.
Itinerary : Omodos village and Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge are the two basic attractions of this trip.
Picturesque stone-built Omodos village and Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge are complementing excellent showcases on Troodos mountains of the nature and cultural heritage on the island.
The rather busy Omodos village is found in a prime wine producing area of Cyprus. The village offers an excellent example of Cyprus rural architecture and a collection of attractions (eg traditional man powered grape press). At its center one finds the historic monastery of the Holly Cross (dating back to the second century AD. According to tradition it was visited by St Helen in the third century AD; she left a piece of the rope used in Christ's Crucifixion there - sadly the monastery doesnot operate any more).
Kelephos medieval Venetian bridge blends Cyprus cultural heritage with its nature. It lies inside the expansive Paphos Forest, home to a few thousands of wild sheep (mouflon). According to tradition the bridge is found on a path that was used by camel caravans to transport mined material to Paphos port for export.
Depending on time availability we may do a walk at the bridge and the nearby valley of Platy, stop for a meal at a village restaurant, go for a winetasting session or visit other attractions on the itinerary. The trip is customisable.
