About this activity
What can you expect:
Discover great two examples of UNESCO heritage - Alcobaça and Batalha monesteries. With our local guide you will know all the history behind them.
Alcobaça monestery was founded in the medieval period by the first Portuguese King, Afonso Henriques, in the year of 1153, and the Batalha monestery (literally the Monastery of the Battle), it was erected in commemoration of the 1385 Battle of Aljubarrota, and would serve as the burial church of the 15th-Century Aviz dynasty of Portuguese royalty
Portugal is the oldest country with defined borders so you will get to know some of the myths that are connected to the Batalha and Alcobaça monesteries like the "Padeira de Aljubarrota" (Aljubarrota baker) and the story of the king Pedro and her queen Inês de Castro.
Between the visit of the momuments we will taste some local and traditional products as the Ginja Liquour (made from sour cherry fruit) and some pastry.
