This Sesimbra beach is selected by several publications as Portugal most beautiful beach. It lies 1 nautical mile away from Sesimbra and its turquoise water make it a holidaymaker delight in the summer months. Its name comes from a rocky outcrop to the west that resembles to a horse’s neck - Cavalo; and a watercourse - Ribeiro that flows along the hillside, making its way until reaching the beach.

Sesimbra most western beach is located near Espichel Cape. Amid large rock formations that shelter it from the wind and the rippling waters Baleeira - Whalers beach was a centenary sheltering harbor for typical Sesimbra´s fishing activities like Tuna fishing. This protected bay makes Baleeira one of the main diving spots and snorkel choices. With crystal clear water is rich in marine life, such as octopuses, wrasses, and several kinds of algae that provide shelter for several juvenile fish species.
