Live Fado Tour in Lisbon
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Alfama, Lisbon Portugal
Get in the mood for music with this live fado tour in Lisbon. Traditional Portuguese Fado has roots in the ‘saudades’ sent by sailors to the New World and remains an important part of Portuguese culture today. During this live music tour, learn all about the unique music form and take in a live show. Romantic, melancholic and intense, Fado is based on classic Portuguese guitar. According to UNESCO, which listed Fado as a World Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2011, ‘The dissemination of Fado through emigration and the world music circuit has reinforced its image as a symbol of Portuguese identity, leading to a process of cross-cultural exchange involving other musical traditions.’ Therefore, it’s unthinkable to visit Lisbon and leave without hearing at least one song of the typical Fado. Take it all in in Alfama, the birthplace of Fado and the oldest neighborhood in the city. Take a trip back in time and learn about the roots of the art form. Attend a live show and become immersed in this unique style of music, all offered by Pancho Tours.

We had an enthusiastic guide, but the setup was such that we saw the early rehearsal for what was the later performance (which took place upstairs). . The tour included perhaps 40 minutes of singing by the three performers. Our seating arrangement was sub-optimal, relative to the singers. I had the feeling that if I wanted a combined food and Fado experience, I could have done better by selecting a restaurant of my choice with a better seating arrangement.
