Natural Heritage Day Tour: Caves, Water Springs and Salt Pans from São Martinho do Porto

The day begins with a short visit to Porto de Mós Medieval Castle, built on the ruins of an ancient Roman stand guard. Continue the tour travelling along mountain roads that lead to the Serra d’Aire and Candeeiros Natural Park where we will visit the largest and most impressive portuguese natural caves, that can be compared to a huge underground cathedral. The next stop will be at the Pia do Urso sensory Park, where we can take a thirty minutes stroll along the pedestrian circuit, followed by free time for lunch.
After lunch, visit the Olhos de Água do Alviela, one of the most important water springs in Portugal. Alcanede, a small town known for its quarries and the estuary salt-pans of Rio Maior are some of the main natural treasures of the region. Return at 6pm to your accommodation in São Martinho do Porto.
