About this activity
I will pick you up at 9:00 am at your Hotel and after a 30-minute ride we will arrive at Sintra around 09:30 am. Our first stop will be Pena Palace,a fantastic extravagant palace that lays on top of a mountain, where you can enjoy a breathtaking view in all directions, seeing as far as the 25th April bridge in Lisbon and the Atlantic seashore in the opposite direction.
This magnificent palace was built in the 19th century following a dream of King Ferdinand II that had the ambition to make Sintra one of the most important places of the Romantic movement and inspire artists from all over Europe.English poet Lord Byron and German composer Richard Strauss were just two of those men that spent time on this new Palace and immediately felt inspired and in love for Sintra.
Pena palace is surrounded by a 100 acre park designed from scratch to enable a calm and inspiring journey through its hidden spots and magical trails. We will discover some of the most beautiful spots at the park and you will be able to take pictures that your friends will envy you for.The visit to Pena palace and park will last around 2 hours.
Around 12 we head to Sintra old town where you can see and walk in the narrow beautiful streets for 30 minutes, which also enables You to find some souvenirs to bring back home.By 12:30 a well-deserved pause arrives so we descend to the village for a nice Portuguese lunch at one of the many fine restaurants in Sintra.
In the afternoon around 14:00 we drive towards the Cabo da Roca (Roca Cape) which is the westernmost point of Europe and where we can experience breathtaking views of the Atlantic. From here we go to the famous Guincho beach with its wild landscapes that are part of the Sintra-Cascais natural park and also a well-known spot for surfers and wind surfers alike.
Continuing down the road we arrive at Cascais where a beautiful bay is located alongside coastal mansions that were once a safe haven for several European monarchs like King D Carlos of Spain .We will leave Cascais around 4pm and head back to Lisbon. In Cascais begins the famous national 6 road that runs along the ocean and Tagus river for more than 20 km until it enters Lisbon from the west.We will pass Estoril, an area famous for having one of the largest casinos in Europe, a place that retains all its glamor since the 1950´s when it became a frequent meeting point for the European elite.
