Design Dye Stitch : Create textile art by the sea

Itinerary

If you would like to design and make your own hand stitched textiles, this is the course for you. We can show you how to find inspiration in your surroundings, explore ideas through mark making on paper, dye your own colour palette of fabric and threads, and translate your designs using simple hand stitches.

Day one starts with a walk on the beach collecting interesting materials to inspire your work. Back in the studio we explore the shapes, colours, and textures using; rubbings, printing, painting, and resist techniques to inspire your own unique designs. After a delicious lunch we move on to dyeing fabric and threads.

Day two is all about stitching – whatever your ability our tutor will be there to gently guide and encourage, and help you to choose, and learn, the right stitches to enhance your unique design. Our relaxed and supportive environment means that complete beginners and experienced stitchers can work side by side.

You will take home a framed finished piece as well as a sketchbook bursting with ideas and a wide range of dyed samples for you to develop further.
