About this activity
Visit: Buckingham Palace, Spur Road, London SW1A 1AA England
The official London residence of the British monarch since 1837, Buckingham Palace is the centrepiece of the monarchy and the best-known of all royal houses. Beginning life as a private house called 'Buckingham House' built in 1705 for the Duke of Buckingham, it was brought under royal control in 1761 by King George III and renovated over time into the world-famous royal palace as we know it today.
Every summer, Buckingham Palace opens its doors to visitors from around the world looking to get a glimpse inside its lavishly decorated rooms and hallways.
On this Buckingham Palace tour, you'll visit the State Rooms, which include the Throne Room, The White Drawing Room and the Ballroom; each more richly decorated than the last and adorned with ornate furniture, paintings and treasures.
Enjoy a rare opportunity to visit Buckingham Palace and enjoy the tour at your own pace; an audio multimedia guide explains the history of the palace and the various rooms within the State Rooms as you make your way around. At the end of your tour, you'll walk along the south side of the palace garden, which has splendid views of the west front of the palace and garden.
To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria, a special exhibition Queen Victoria’s Palace at this year’s Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace will tell the story of how the young monarch turned an unloved royal residence into the centre of the social, cultural and official life of the country.

This visit was just what we wanted. The listening devices were clear and concise. We could also go at our own rate. We had plenty of time for the visit. Just a note--I left my camera in the tray after going through the machine. I didn't notice it right away, but when we went back to the palace several hours later an employee knew what I was missing and brought it right out to me. Thank you staff at Buckingham Palace.
Excellent informative and beautiful. Had coffee and cake in garden. Great gifts hop. Privileged to visit, thank you
We had a wonderful time, so grateful we pre booked all our tickets. The State Rooms are a must see, the art alone will blow your mind!! Stunning history right in front of you. Note, the royal garden tickets are sold separately. Oh and please follow the rules..... you are visiting the palace don't be a jerk!! No Pictures inside!!! The audio was fantastic!!
I got all my touristy stuff from Viator. So convenient and reasonably prices. For all the people trying to plan London I highly recommend Viator
Audio guided tour was great and very informative. We just were amazed at the history and the guide pointed out points we probably wouldn't have noticed. We then enjoyed afternoon tea at the cafe
This tour was much better than the one we took many years ago. They have really made it tourist / People friendly. Well worth the trip!
I have wanted to visit the state rooms since they first opened and this trip did not disappoint. The rooms are splendid and the audio tour is very thorough and interesting.
We enjoyed our walk through the State Rooms. Our only comment would be that if you're looking to gain a glimpse of Queen Elizabeth's life living at Buckingham Palace, this tour focuses mostly on historical figures and their roll in making Buckingham Palace what it is today. Very little to nothing about Queen Elizabeth.
Tour was great. Saw a lot more of the Palace than last time I went 20 years ago. Very enjoyable. Only drawback was using Viator was not necessary nor of any benefit, as you still have to get in the ticket line and exchange the pass for tickets. All went smoothly.
Special interesting very well shown and explained. A very very long queue and the fact we bought a head didn't help at all!! We had to wait twice for a long time like the people who didn't buy at all!! Since I was with my 85 old mother that was very hard and infuriating!! There should be a different queue for people with vouchers
