About this activity
Secret Societies have existed in human society for thousands of years. London more than any other City has a secret history. Behind the official part promoted by heritage history, lies a City of esoteric traditions and obscure institutions.
The Tour is partly based on the Augustus Darcy research, who was a journalist, writer and investigator. In 1933 a mysterious secret society commissioned Augustus Darcy to compile a guide to occult London. Right after the guide was finished, Augustus Darcy was found dead. Some investigators think that he probably was involved in the magical war. Meet your Guide at St James’s Palace, one of the oldest Royal Palaces in London. On your tour you will discover one of the first temples devoted to the study of magical arts. Afterwards your Guide will show you where in XIX century was the darkest society called ‘The Suicide Circle’. Walk through the Pall Mall before you arrive at the oldest occult bookshop in London. Discover stories about the Hermetic order of the Golden Dawn and its members. Continue you way to the Charing Cross Hotel where the French occultist Eliphas Levi performed an act of necromancy. Follow your Guide to Cleopatras needle, full of dark legends. Discover how it was brought to London and why some Londoners are still obsessed with Egyptian mythology. Continue your way to Freemasons quarter and walk by hidden secret society Ordo tempti orientus, where the most influential member was English author and occultist Aleister Crowley. Find your way to another occult society before you arrive at the British Museum and discover how pagans and members of secret societies pay tributes to pagan gods in the museum.
Pass through occult bookshop before you finish at the Temple of the Occult, where you will be horrified about actions which were performed inside.

My tour guide was Dani and I had a fantastic time! Not only is occultism a highly interesting topic of mine, but I felt like I was walking around town with a old friend while we toured! Worth every penny and it was so neat to be able to view a hidden side of London that I wouldn’t be able to normally see on a regular tour.
