What To Expect Explore The Palace, Its Numerous Sections, and Exhibitions

London’s Kensington Palace is a royal residence with a lot of stories, secrets, and history attached to it. You’ll require around an hour and a half to get a good look at the spectacular palace apartments and explore the two new ‘Victoria Revealed’ exhibitions (Victoria: Woman and Crown and Victoria: A Royal Childhood), displaying an array of Queen Victoria’s personal objects where she once resided. While Victora: Woman lets you delve into the carefully-managed private life of the Queen, Victoria: A Royal Childhood offers intricate details on her childhood and adolescence.

Discover the magnificently-done state apartments that reveals the lifestyle of its resident royals, including the likes of MaryII, William III, Queen Anne and her son William, the last ruling member of the Stuart dynasty. Learn more about their consequential lives and dive deep into some of their agonizing secrets. Gaze at the masterpieces of architect and painter William Kent as you enter the Cupola Room and climb the King’s Grand Staircase. Visit various other chambers such as The Presence Chamber, The Privy Chamber, The King’s Drawing Room, and the King’s Gallery where you can learn more about royal British living. Check out exuberant examples of what the royals wore during their rule in the 18th century and be amused by breathtaking artworks from the Royal Collection while there.

You also get to learn significant details about Lady Diana’s innovative sense of fashion and style at a carefully curated exhibition in the palace. Ranging from an assortment of her celebrated outfits (changed periodically) to certain items and accessories never seen before in public, this exhibition also puts some of the original design sketches of her costumes. Expect to wait a decent amount of time before entering this exhibition.

Relax Yourselves In The Gardens While Also Learning About Victorian Horticulture

The visit is incomplete without sauntering around the palace gardens. This year marks the 200th anniversary of the birth of Queen Victoria and therefore, the floral displays will predominantly feature horticultural discoveries from the Victorian era. The Sunken Garden, planted in 1908, particularly celebrates gardening styles followed during the 18th century. April to October is when the garden looks most vibrant with its rotating flower displays. The Cradle Walk, a shaded arch that surrounds the garden, is notable for being a great vantage point from where you can view both the vibrant Sunken Garden and the rest of the renovated gardens.

Lastly, wander about in the Formal gardens, a former royal playground, and check out the exotic Victorian plant collections. These include Trachycarpus fortunei, Luma apiculata, Tropaeolum Speciosum, Cryptomeria Japonica, and many more.
