A designated UNESCO World Heritage Site, Canterbury Cathedral is both a serene place of holiness and beautiful tourist destination. As the Cathedral of the Archbishop, the spiritual leader of the Church of England, Canterbury holds a special place in British history. No ordinary Cathedral, Canterbury has a long history that is often described as ‘England in Stone’; from the role of its Archbishops in the Magna Carta to the murder of Thomas Becket after a power struggle with the King of England, Canterbury’s history is intertwined with that of England. Founded by St Augustine in 600 AD, the Cathedral today is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in England, and the first building in the country to be redesigned in this popular style in 1774.

Leeds castle was the best part of this tour. Plenty of time to view castle and grounds. Canterbury portion was interesting but rushed based on trying to fit in lunch. Cliffs of Dover portion was the main reason we signed up for this tour but turned out to be a disappointment because tour only took us to a distant location along the port from which we were only able to see a small portion of the cliffs. Stop was only long enough to take a quick picture. In retrospect should have done a little more research on this tour. Our tour guide Geoffrey and bus driver were very professional and informative; also went out of their way to accommodate their guests.

Overall, this was a very good tour. The first stop, Leeds Castle, was beautiful. We went through the castle fairly quick and then spent time walking the grounds. The second stop was Canterbury and we took a quick walk through the Cathedral and then spent some time in a few of the local shops. We took the option to do lunch with the group at a small restaurant in Canterbury for I think 12 pounds each. The lunch choice was either chicken with a gravy or fish and chips. We both had the fish and it was very overcooked. We weren't thrilled with the cleanliness of the restaurant either. Since you do lunch before seeing anything else in Canterbury, we were disappointed to see how many other options there were and how easy it would have been to find something better on our own in the time given. My recommendation to others is find lunch on your own. After Canterbury, we headed to Dover for 15 minute stop for pictures by the water. We would have liked the tour to include going to Dover Castle, even if it was just a quick stop to see the outside. It felt like we came such a long way to Dover and didn't really get the benefit of spending time there. Nevertheless, we would still recommend this tour and did enjoy it overall.

The trip was nice, unfortunately the guide didn't know the Canterbury Cathedral wasn't open. The overall trip was ok, the guide was ok, but I had better on this trip. Leeds castle was great, but the photo stop for Cliffs of Dover and Dover Castle I could have done without. I would have visited Dover Castle.
