In our 2.5-hour tour, your expert, kid friendly guide will make sure that children and adults alike will have a fun, enjoyable and educational experience as they explore one of the highest-rated attractions in London.
The museum was founded in 1753, and is the oldest national public museum in the world, with a staggering collection of over 8 million exhibits covering over two million years of human history from prehistoric times to the present day.
Your guide will lead you through many of the most important sections in the museum, such as the Egyptian collection, which is Europe's largest, as well as the Greek and Anglo Saxon collections. Your kid-friendly guide will show and explain to you a fascinating selection of artefacts and findings that have left a fundamental impact on the history of human kind, while making sure you and your children are entertained and engaged throughout the tour.
The highlights of the museum include the Rosetta Stone, a discovery which has shed light on three thousand years of Ancient Egyptian history. Then there is the colossal granite monumental statue of Ramses II and a number of Egyptian mummies, including the five-thousand-year-old “Ginger”. The Greek section will give you the opportunity to see the extraordinary Elgin marbles, the Athens Parthenon Sculptures, which have been exhibited continuously in the British Museum since 1817, the Eneid Monument and the Discus Thrower, a Greek sculpture of a young ancient Greek athlete throwing a discus.
In the Anglo Saxon section, you will be able to admire the beautiful objects found in the Sutton Hoo ship burial site dating from the early 7th century. The jewellery, coins, helmets and other findings have given historians significant insight into a previously sketchy period in British history.
Your guide, with a passion for history and archaeology, and extensive experience in leading tours for families with children, will fascinate you with stories and legends about the ancient world, and at the and of the tour you will certainly have enhanced your understanding of the history of humanity.
