About this activity

Begin your London experience with a stroll through St James Park, as your guide unravels its surprising history. Hear how King Henry VII purchased this marshland with the dream to create York Palace.

Then you’ll go to Buckingham Palace to see one of its oldest tradition - the Changing the Guard. Your guide will get you up close and personal to the call of the Guards as they carry out this world-famous event. Hear about the history and pageantry behind the ceremony where the Queen’s Foot Guards, dressed in red tunics and bearskin hats, march to Buckingham Palace with the military band.

After the Changing of Guards ceremony, it is time to visit The Royal Mews of Buckingham Palace, the finest working stables in existence. Here you will have a bespoke audio-guide at your disposal, so you don’t miss a thing! See the royal coaches and cars used by the Royal family throughout history and to this day. Witness the daily workings of the stables that house the majestic Windsor Greys and Cleveland Bays as the royal stablemen go about exercising and training them.

Then it's off to the State Stables, where the royal livery is kept, and you'll get the opportunity to take some photos dressing up as a footman in specially-created livery for children and adults. Experience stepping into a royal carriage, sitting down and practicing your regal waving just as Queen Victoria did.

See the famous Diamond Jubilee Coach that was built to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. You’ll get to discover treasures of The Royal Mews like the Gold State which has been used at every coronation since that of George IV in 1821; the Glass Coach; and the replica of Semi-State Landau which The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge traveled in after their wedding.

After exploring the Royal Mews your guide will be waiting to take you on a relaxing stroll to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea. Hear all about the origins of this very English ceremony and reflect on your day over a selection of delicious sandwiches, classic scones and mouth watering cakes and pastries.
