About this activity
Why Watch The End of History

The play is directed by the immensely talented 5-time BAFTA award winner Jack Thorne. He has written for television shows such as ‘Skins and Shameless’ and some of his solo projects include ‘A Christmas Carol’ and ‘Woyzeck’ at The Old Vic. The play is directed by the gifted John Tiffany, who has managed to bag an Olivier and two Tony Award. His works include ‘The Twits’, ‘The Pass’, and ‘Road’ for the Royal Court Theatre. Thorne and Tiffany have worked together in the past to create beautiful plays. One of their most famous theatrical works are the massively successful Broadway and West End runs of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The duo has also worked together in the past on plays such as ‘Let the Right One In’ and ‘Hope’ for the Royal Court. The End of History is one of their best collaborative masterpieces yet, and it is well worth a watch this season at the West End.

The Story

It felt like anything is possible in Newbury in 1997 when David and Sal manage to bring all their children back home to enjoy a family weekend. Sal, an abysmal cook, is trying her hardest to whip up a meal for a lovely family dinner. She claims that talents lie in riling up her children and not cooking. The eldest, Carl, has decided to introduce his new girlfriend to the family for the very first time. Polly, the middle child, is arriving from Cambridge University for this specific reunion, and the youngest child, Tom, is expected to leave detention just in time to make it for the family dinner. After having brought up their children on welfarism and leftist ideals instead of fancy food, Sal and David try to be parents who don’t judge a lot. Watch this drama of conflicting ideals unfold as the family reunites under one roof.
