About this activity
Make your own way to the Tower of London on the banks of the Thames River. With your entrance ticket, Bypass the long lines at the main ticket office, and head through the group entrance and security into this imposing palace-fortress.

Built by William the Conqueror in 1066, the Tower has a dark 1,000-year history as a royal palace, prison and execution place, as well as a royal mint and armoury. Today, it still stores the British monarch’s Crown Jewels, just as it has done since 1303.

Once inside, explore independently or choose to take an optional audio-guided tour (own expense) or complimentary tour led by a Yeoman Warder or ‘Beefeater’, one of the ceremonial guards. The 1-hour Yeoman-led tours leave from inside the entrance every 30 minutes until the mid-afternoon, and offer a compelling insight into the tower’s history and sites.

See the brooding ravens as you walk around and be swept up by the grim but fascinating stories of the turrets, chambers and buildings around you. Visit the main, White Tower, to see its Royal Armouries exhibits, and enter the Bloody Tower, reputed to be where the ‘Princes in the Tower’ were murdered by an unknown hand in around 1483.

See Traitors’ Gate, through which the arrested Anne Boleyn was brought by boat from the Thames River. Then, walk to Tower Green where she was beheaded in 1536 on the orders of Henry VII, and where a string of monarchs and traitors also met a grisly end.

Step back to Tudor times at the Medieval Palace, where recreated medieval interiors detail comfortable lifestyles of Tudor monarchs such as Henry VIII, and stretch your legs with a Wall Walk, strolling along the massive encircling walls to discover more sites.

Lastly, don’t miss the Crown Jewels, the royal regalia and gems that symbolize the British monarchy. Join the separate queue to gaze at these sparkling exhibits, including St Edward’s Crown, used at coronations since 1661, and the legendary Koh-i-Noor diamond, the 105.6-carat diamond given to Queen Victoria in 1849.

Having explored as much as you wish, take your leave and make your own way back home or to your hotel.

We went to Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels. They were beautifully displayed. Such a treat to see them in person. Also enjoyed The Crown Jewel gift shop where we made some purchases.

Loved the tower of london , but was very dissapointed with tour company , very confusing on how to pick up your tickets and where, and we also paid extra for the part of crown jewels and beefeater tour and this is included in the price of tower, so we should have not paid extra and we did ordering tickets

Lots of steps. Not excited by anything we saw. Just an old castle. Done it wouldn't return. Too many shops.

There should be a limit of the amount of people for the Beefeater Tour. The line to the Crown Jewels was long and the various twists and turns before you reached the Crown Jewels annoying.

I would like to say that even with special tickets the crown jewels were worth standing in line for an hour and 20 minutes. Then the rest if the the other important site had long Q lines as well. If you want a chance to avoid that bad a wait go very early. You can get inside the tower but there too you have long lines to get past security and admitted..... even with your ticket from here. You will have to exchange it for another one.before you can get in. Aside from all that it is a fascinating place full of history. But be warned ... everything in London Centeral is very crowded . So pack good standing and walking shoes, patience and expect delays and you will love it.

The Tower of London is so much more than the Crown Jewels! The jewels are beautiful but there’s so much history in all the buildings. We went to every building and enjoyed them thoroughly. I highly recommend giving yourself 4 hours to view everything and go to the Crown Jewels early or that’s all you’ll get to see.

The Live Beefeater Tour was one of our favorite highlights of London. The Beefeater guide was absolutely fantastic and the very best way to tour the Tower. Our guide was extremely witty and hilarious. He got a 5++ score. The only issue that we had was that, even with the tour, the line for the Crown Jewels was so long that we decided to skip it. We were under the impression that the tour gained faster entry.

It was nice to see the Tower of London. However, lines to see the Crown Jewels were long and we never got in. That was a disappointment. They need timed visits. It was very crowded and hot!

This ticket is for entrance to the Tower of Lonon and does include the Crown Jewel exhibit and a Beefeater Tour; however, your tickets does not provide anything that general admission at the door does not. By that I mean that you have to wait for a Beefeater Tour like everyone else attending, and the Beefeater tours are huge. We dropped out of ours because we couldn't hear our guide. The audio tour (minimal extra fee) was worth the purchase. We learned some interesting history through the audio.

Tower of london was decent. Far to many people on beefeater tour (approx 100). Couldn't hear anything. he moved from placed to place too fast for us to keep up. Finally left and went on our own.

It was good to buy the tickets in advance, but there was really no skipping of the line to get in. There is no beefeater—it’s a yeoman and ours was decent—he spoke very fast and it was hard to understand him. The tower itself was great to walk around in but you won’t get a guided tour with this—just a 45 min overall tour first...ours was cut to 30 min bc of the inclement weather. But it was great to go to the tower. In hindsight I should have gotten the handheld devices that tell you what everything means because we had no idea, even after the yeoman’s talk. He was entertaining.

Location with great history and importance. The Tower is great but left the Beefeater led tour and went exploring on our own when his group got too large and we couldn't hear him anymore.

Nothing different than purchasing a ticket at the door. They cancelled in person guides that morning and we were in a group of probably 60 tourists. Unless next to the tour guide, it was extrremely difficult to hear him. Disappointing to say the least.

There should be more said and at least one book written on the guards and their history. Plus what it takes to be a guard

We thoroughly enjoyed the somewhat blood thirsty history. Loved hearing from Scott Kelly about his life and role as a Yeoman’s warden.

My husband and I had an awesome experience during our visit to London and our Tower of London tour. Our Beefeater tour guide Dave was excellent. He had great stories about the history of the Tower of London. He was very funny and engaging. The tour is very much worth it. We also enjoyed seeing the Crown Jewels.

Anamazi g place and skipping the line for tickets expedited the whole great day. Allow at least 4-5 hours for this tour

Easy to get our ticket- you will have to go to the ticket area to get a ticket before entering FYI. The tower of London is amazing- make sure you have a few hours at least to go through it all. To be honest, I am not sure what the Beefeater part entailed- We didn't see any of that and it really didn't explain it. I do recommend this to anyone going to London.
