Zaros is a famous lake which is created by waters that run from the springs of Votomos. Around the lake, there is a recreational area with tables and benches, an information board and signs everywhere. You must not miss having a coffee or even a meal on the pier which the municipality has built on the shore of the lake under the deep shade of the plane trees. The local speciality is salmon and trout grilled over an open fire.

The Gortys was inhabited till 3000BC, while during the Minoan era it evolved as one of the largest cities of Crete. Gortys is one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. In 1898 the first excavations started, which continue till today. Matala It is famous for the carved caves in the rocks and the hippies of the ‘70s. There is a beautiful sandy beach, 300m long, with fine gravel and crystal clear deep water.
