About this activity

In the morning, you will be picked up from your hotel in downtown Luang Prabang for the 1-hour drive to Kuang Si Falls. Stop along the way at the local H'mong village of Ban Na Ouane where you'll observe the daily life of this ethnic hill tribe of northern Laos. Arriving at the main parking area, take a short hike into the forest before reaching Kuang Si.

The waterfalls begin in shallow pools atop a steep hillside, which leads to the three-tiered cascade. The water collects in numerous turquoise pools as it flows downstream. The cascades that result are typical of travertine waterfalls, with an abundance of flora and fauna surrounding the area. The pools make great swimming holes and are a popular destination.

After free time to swim in one of the clear pools, follow your guide on a hiking path into the forest. Below the tiered limestone pools lies the Khmu village of Ban Thapene. The Khmu men here are known as skilled basket weavers and can sometimes be watched crafting works of art still used in Lao daily life.

Lunch will be served by the waterfall before you head back in the direction of Luang Prabang. Stop along the way at Ban Xiang Khong, a village known for its paper-making tradition, and visit the weaving village of Ban Xieng Lek. You'll arrive back at your hotel in the early evening.
