KAYAKING THE NAM KHAN RIVER AND TAD SAE WATERFALL (L)

High water season, August to January:

Meet your guide in Luang Prabang city and drive about 25 minutes to our Adventure Camp on the banks of the Nam Khan River. We’ll take you on a short cruise upriver to the Tad Sae Waterfalls which flow directly into the Nam Khan River. The great natural pools invite you for a refreshing swim and there’s a good chance you’ll see elephants at the falls. You’ll return to the Adventure Camp by boat.

After an equipment and safety briefing, you’ll push off downriver to enjoy paddling through stunning panoramic views of green jungle mountains and Lao life. Take lunch along the river and continue kayaking on the flowing water through sections of rapids for exciting fun. The total kayaking is about 20 km (12 mi) with travel time varying widely but normally about 3-4 hrs.

An extension for even longer kayaking from Ban En (25 km) may be possible for strong guests with kayaking experience. Ask our sales staff at the time of booking!

Low water season, February to July:

This full day kayaking trip is not available during the dry season due to low water levels and impassible sections. See the half-day kayak option for some kayaking or even a combo tour. Check with staff for details.

* Tad Sae Waterfall is low or dry from February to August

* Kayaking in Nam Khan River half day tour in Low water season, February to July:

During the dry season the river is significantly lower and exposes white sand beaches and riverbanks where we can stop for photo ops, river-jumping from trees, and to visit Henri Mahout’s resting site in the jungle a short walk from the river. This 11km (7mi) easy run (including some rapids) usually takes about 3 hours with breaks. We'll beach the kayaks at a local's favorite spot, Geng Noun, before transferring you back to the city by vehicle.
