Lucca Bike and Wine

We meet in Lucca city center at 9.30 am at our bike shop. The guide, that is also a good mechanic in case of need, gives the information about the tour and some instructions about using the trekking bike and the gear. We have then the beautiful road over the walls to play with the gear and the brakes and take confidence with the bicycles. The Walls are like a park going all around the historical centre, with a large street where only bicycles and pedestrian are allowed to go. We stop at one of the fountains to fill our bike bottle. In fact our trekking bikes are provided with bike bottle and helmet. They have 27 speeds, disk brakes and they are front suspended. Good quality bikes. After a warm up on the walls we leave Lucca to reach the river park, where a quiet white gravel road follow the water for many kilometers. Some parts are under the trees shade, others are just under the sun, so we always suggest to take with you a good sunscreen, other than comfortable clothes or better, sportswear. The tour is not difficult but 27km on a bicycle are more funny with the right clothing. Following the street along the river we reach the countryside where some easy ups and downs will introduce us at last part of the route, the wine roads with small farms and many olive grooves. We usually are at the winery after maximum 2 hours of biking, so around 11.30 am. Alessandra will welcome us at the vineyards and she will be our guide for about 1,5 hours introducing the estate and the cellar, explaining every secrets of the wine productions and finally the best part, the guided wine tasting coupled with some foods. They produce excellent organic wines, both reds and whites. This is the perfect moment for relaxing and take funny photos. For Italian law only people over 18 years old can drink wine. The wine gives us more power (for the first 30 minutes...) and it's just what we need... in fact the way back is shorter and in hald an hour we should be in Lucca again, so about 1.30/2.00 pm.
