Pass By: Lucca's Duomo (Cattedrale di San Martino), Piazza San Martino, Lucca Italy

You’ll meet your guide by the Cathedral of San Martino, from here you’ll start your walk in the direction of Piazza Napoleone and Palazzo Ducale (external view) all the way to the heart of the city, Piazza San Michele, where the church of San Michele stands out with its beautiful façade enriched with inlays and sculptures and fine interiors. Nearby you will see Giacomo Puccini’s Birth Home, converted into a museum in 1979. Continuing along the medieval lanes you’ll get to Palazzo Guinigi, where you can admire the Guinigi tower: built in stone and brick, it is one of the most representative landmarks of Lucca and it houses some holm oaks on its summit.

From here you will move to Piazza dell’Anfiteatro, located on the exact place where the ancient Roman amphitheatre once stood, hence the elliptical form. The square used to be the privileged meeting point of the local society, and today it still represents the heart of the city, thanks to the numerous bars and shops housed in the historic buildings. It certainly offers the most evocative glimpse of the city.

You will continue your visit of Lucca with a walk along its majestic walls, soaking up the city view.
