Mt. Pilatus Christmas Market: Self-Guided Trip

Start your Mt. Pilatus tour at the Valley Station in Kriens. The experience is self-guided, so you’ll travel without a guide, following a suggested route. Read the Itinerary for timings.

First, you’ll board a panoramic gondola for a 30-minute ride to Fräkmüntegg. If you have kids, perhaps hop off the gondola halfway through the ride in Krienseregg. The mountain station has a playground so the kids can burn off some energy before you continue the gondola ride.

Disembark at Fräkmüntegg and soak up the panorama. When you're ready, board the Dragon Ride, an aerial cable car with a spacious interior and cockpit-like design. Its large windows give the impression of being in a helicopter, and the views stretch over Lake Lucerne and the Alps.

When you arrive at Mt. Pilatus, you’ll have time to stroll around and browse the crafts and food at the market stands. With an included mulled wine in your hand, you’ll soak up the festive mood and entertainment at one of the highest Christmas markets in Europe. Then, return via the Dragon Ride and gondola to the valley station at Kriens. Alternatively, travel to Alpnachstad by cogwheel train.
