About this activity

This route allows you to discover the eastern part of Madeira with a friendly and professional tour guide. You will be able to discover some of the most famous sightseeing on the island, including Pico do Areeiro and the amazing Penha d'Aguia.

Start from Camacha, a picturesque village high in the mountains where traditional wickerwork furniture is made. It was also the place where football was first played in 1875. Then, travel up to the spectacular Pico do Areeiro. Located at an altitude of 1818 meters, Pico do Areeiro will give you a fabulous view over the four corners of the island of Madeira.

The descent will be through the verdant Ribeiro Frio situated in a deep valley surrounded by mountains, where you can see the trout hatcheries. Here, you can find centenarian laurels and be in the company of funny Bis-bis (Regulus madeirensis). Then, it is onto Santana, where you will see typical thatched houses and have lunch. On the way back, the amazing Penha d'Aguia will leave you overwhelmed. The viewpoint of S. Lourenço is more point east of the island of Madeira. With a unique landscape, you can see the north and south of the island while absorbing the dramatic landscape.

Back on the southern coast, the route will take you through the town of Machico, the first capital of Madeira. The small town of Machico stretches along the slopes of the valley. Its calm and quiet atmosphere is the ideal place for a stroll along the seafront. Here, you can appreciate a monument erected in homage to the discoverers in Machico. Your private driver will transfer you back to your hotel.
