About this activity
Savor the wines of Spains Ribera del Duero region during this 10-hour wine tasting trip with a flexible afternoon activity exploring Castile and Len. Sample the diverse wineries of this Spanish denominacin de origen (official quality) region. After a mid-day lunch break, youll have the flexibility to explore local attractions like historic castles and medieval towns. Depart from central Madrid in the morning, continuing for approximately 2 hours to reach the winery which will host your tasting. Youll reach the winery around mid-day. During your time at the winery, youll discover a variety of vintages as you savor a cross-section of the red wines raised in this famous region. Youll also get a few tips about Ribera del Dueros history as a wine region and learn about the typical wine styles produced by local winemakers. Then take a break for lunch in mid-afternoon (at your own expense), offering you the opportunity to pick a local restaurant where you can sample some of the typical cuisines of the Castile and Len area. Following your lunch break, youll have the opportunity to enjoy a different range of potential activities in the area starting in the late afternoon. Depending on the case we might go to visit a second winery or/and, you might visit a charming medieval town or an ancient castle. Among the options are Peafiel, Pedraza, Aranda de Duero, Segovia, Riaza, and Pearanda, among other choices. Youll return back to Madrid in the evening. Ribera del Duero has recently been considered as one of the best areas in the world in the production of quality wines. Duero River is synonymous with quality all the way. Ribera del Duero opened to the world later than Rioja. The Appellation of Origin was created in 1980. Since that time more and more people have become supporters and fans of its wines. Currently, they have enormous international prestige. But to enjoy Ribera del Duero you have to consider not only its wines but its towns (some of them medieval towns), its landscapes, its gastronomy, its festivals, its customs. Ribera del Duero is only 2 hours far from Madrid. The typical grape in here is Tempranillo but you can also find some other grapes in a minority. The wines produced here are full-bodied wines and where the fruit is very present.
