Itinerary

Stop At: Plaza de Santa Ana, Madrid Spain

Meeting Point. Important to be on time. The tour departs on time.

Meet your guide in Santa Ana Square, and set off on a tapas crawl of the city, exploring the best bars that only locals really know of. As you stroll, your guide will chat to you about Madrid, the local cuisine and, of course, the tapas bars that no great evening in Madrid should be without!

Like all Spanish cities, Madrid has its own regional cuisine with an emphasis on use of local ingredients. Perhaps more so than others, Madrid has been influenced by its immigrant population, who’ve brought in flavors and ideas as cosmopolitan as the city itself.

Visit up to four bars on your tour of the town, enjoying wine tastings in each. Sample beautiful Spanish wines made from well-known grapes like tempranillo, malvar, garnacha, and parellada, and enjoy a complimentary tapa (tapas dish) to complement the wine's flavors. Beer and soft drinks (one per bar) are also included should you prefer this to wine! While the dishes vary on each occasion, you can be sure it’s a taste bud tingling treat! Examples of dishes include eggplant with honey, cod brandade, Spanish omelet, Iberian ham and chickpea stew. See the example itinerary for details on the different bars you may visit.

Your tapas tour finishes in a centrally located bar so that you’re well-placed to continue your night out independently.

ITINERARY
--------------------

Bar 1:

Head inside an atmospheric Castilian sherry bar, and learn all about fortified wines, from crisp and dry finos to old olorosos. Admire the chalk boards scrawled with daily tapas specials and soak up the atmosphere inside this delightfully old-fashioned bar.

Bar 2:

Visit a wine bar that doubles up as a store – tucked away behind liquor bottles! If you like what you eat or drink here, then purchase it from the shop to take home.

Bar 3:

A warm and bustling tavern welcomes you with their open kitchen were you can see how the dishes are prepared

Bar 4:

Round off your evening in style at a dark and bohemian Madrid tavern, which is still in business after 100 years, you will enjoying a full-bodied glass of wine.

The 4 bars we visited had great tapas and wine. We even tried the cidre in one of bars. Rodrigo was a great guide.

Although the tapas tour was good, I expected more out of this tour. The 4 different restaurants were typical and some better than others. We did not find that we had a reserved area for the group and were some times (2 of the 4 restaurants) in a crowded corner standing up.

Guide was very good! We visited four tapas restaurants. We chose wine, beer or soft drinks and he ordered tapas. We lost count but think we had a total of 15 different tapas. Highly recommend.

Our host was very engaging and knowledgable. He took us to four tapas and wine bars to sample both. The food and wine was excellent. If we return to Madrid, we will do this trip again.

Good food (average two dishes at each of four venues), good wine (a glass at each venue), good company and an excellent guide. What more could you want?) A warning though, this is dinner so don't eat before!

The mood was set the moment we arrived when our tour guide, Raul, introduced himself with a bit of humour. The tour was fantastic and exposes you to a lot of authentic Spanish cuisine from the region. At easy restaurant you visit you get a choice of different drinks to try with the food. This tour is perfect for any visitor to Madrid.

This tour was one of the highlights of our whole trip to Spain. Our guide, Carlos, was amazing. So friendly and knowledge. He took us to great spots with a very local feel. The food and wine we're all incredibly. We had all the classic tapas and some I'd never even heard of but would gladly eat again. And we drank Spanish red vermut which was delicious. We ended the night in a great location to continue on our own for more tapas and wine. We had a great small group who all really got along and enjoyed each other's company.

Our guide Carlos was an excellent communicator who not only provided a lot of historical information whilst moving between venues, but also a great knowledge of the food and wines which were all excellent. Do yourself a favor if you're ever in Madrid.

This tour was great! We only went to four places but were given plenty of food at each place. We got to try some classic Spanish cuisine -- manchego, serrano ham, patatas bravas, garlic shrimp, torrijas, pepitos, etc. The wine pours were also very generous :) Carlos our guide was very knowledgeable and had great English so was easy to understand.

Highly recommend! We four oldies joined the tour and had a great night. Delicious tapas and plenty of drinks! We visited great venues which we would never had found by ourselves. The Tapas is very generous … it was our dinner, The tour guide was a lovely young local man (Sorry I can't remember his name now!) … he was great. I am a non drinker so I just had soft drink, my husband had beer. Our friends had 'lots' of wine! It was a fabulous way to experience the old town at night, visit great bars and restaurants and learn about tapas. The group was mixed, young and old, mixed nationalities, it was great. Everyone enjoyed themselves.

I signed up for this tour for my last night in Madrid when my traveling companion had already gone home as a way to get out with a group. This was a wonderful way to spend an evening. Carlos was our guide and made sure to find out about allergies, preferences and the like. As a picky eater who preferred not to eat seafood, he made sure that there were other options. But since I want to try things, I tried all of his options and they were all delicious. There was plenty to eat over the evening - I left stuffed but not uncomfortable. This tour requires some walking but no more than 3-5 minutes at a time, so can be accessible to most people with some mobility. Carlos gave us info on the places and the food/wine choices to make it interesting and more than just a food fest. Thanks for a great send off from Madrid!

This was so much fun and I learned a lot about Spanish wine and tapas. The food included in this tour was more than enough for a meal. We went to four tapas bars. My favorite was shrimp and garlic with a glass of Spanish vermouth, but all the food and wine was great. I highly recommend this tour and our tour guide Paula was great and alao very knowledgable about Madrid history.

This was our first experience of a tour like this and I’m just disappointed I waited to be nearly 40 before trying one! Our guide - Carlos - was friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful. He took care to ensure all his guests were well catered for and took us to some beautiful, hidden gems. One huge benefit of the tour was the speed at which we were served in some extremely busy establishments. In addition, the food and wine choices were simply superb. I guess with anything like this your group can make or break the experience - we were lucky to be joined by a mixed group of fabulous characters - thanks to Carlos, the group and all the establishments for a brilliant evening

Our group of six consisted of me and my husband and our traveling companions. Carlos was our tour guide. He was very knowledgeable about the area we walked in and also about the history of the four places we visited. The wine pour at each place was generous and the food was quite good. My husband is not a wine drinker and was able to sample the local beer at each establishment. I, personally had no experience with Tapas and found it a wonderful way to sample many different types of local dishes. I would recommend this tour as a great way to spend an afternoon and Carlos as a very amiable and knowledgeable guide.

Paula was so nice and very knowledgeable. My brother and I had the most wonderful time eating Tapas and tasted some world class wine. I would highly recommend Paula as the person to ask for when doing a Madrid wine and tapas tasting.

We did this tour on our first night in Madrid. It was very fun! The food was excellent (you will not leave hungry), and the wine delicious. Our guide Enrique was excellent. He taught us about Vermouth, which we ended up sampling in many of the tapas bars we visited throughout Spain. Highly recommend.

Enrique provided an excellent experience as well as was very knowledgeable when it came to his selections. My personal favorite was the restaurant, El Lacon which resulted in a follow up visit after the tour was over. I highly recommend this tour during your trip to Madrid.

Enrique was a fantastic guide who mixed local history with amazing food and fantastic wines and vermouth. We visited family owned places that would not stand out to non locals but offered warm welcome and terrific specialty dishes and bespoke wines.
