Stop At: Adventurous Appetites Tapas Tour, The Bear Statue Plaza Puerta del Sol s/n, 28013 Madrid Spain

On the walking tour you'll visit four traditional bars/restaurants to try authentic Spanish delicacies. It might be chorizo in cider, octopus from Galicia, cider from Asturias, sherry from Andalucia or other regional specialties. The tour price includes your first drink and tapas at the first bar you'll visit. You can then choose how much or how little you'd like to eat and drink at the other bars/restaurants you'll visit on the evening walking tour. For a satisfying night out you should expect to spend about 30 to 35 euros per person.

Along the way, your English-speaking guide will explain the traditions behind Madrid's food and wine, and advise on local specialties. Your local guide will also assist with language and translation, while providing interesting facts about Madrid's history, culture and customs.

As the average maximum group size is ten people, you will enjoy a unique personalized experience on this special evening walking tour of Madrid's fabulous tapas bars and restaurants. It's the perfect way to discover local insights, while sampling traditional food and drink in great company. Ultimately, adding more color and flavor to your Spanish sojourn!

ITINERARY
--------------------

First stop:

An authentic Asturian bar, frequented by Spaniards of every age and description. A great place to kick off the evening trying their specialties of cabrales (blue cheese), chorizo and cider, which is poured in a very original way!

Second Stop:

A typical, very traditional "fino" or Sherry bar. This hostelry has changed very little in the last century with standing room at the bar or seating at wooden tables at the back. The bar is complete with the authentic oak sherry casks. "Fino" and "Manzanilla" sherries of various hues and tastes are served by the glass or from bottles filled directly from the kegs. Drinks come with complimentary olives or bread sticks.

Next stop:

This intimate local bar gives you a real taste of Madrid, with bulls' heads on the wall set off by various football shirts, and sawdust on the floor where locals deposit their olive pips before a final clear up at the end of the night. On the bar there is a huge selection of "tapitas" and "pinchos" (similar to canapes). Beside the bar is a model ship full of prawns which are usually provided as your complimentary "tapita" with drinks.

Final stop:

A very popular bar/restaurant serving wonderful "tostadas" and great salads, meats, cheeses and Tapas. This is a fantastic eatery with very good quality, no nonsense food and a great atmosphere with orders being shouted from waiter to waiter to bar to chef!

After this the night is yours! With the largest density of bars and restaurants per square meter in Europe, Madrid is famed for its vibrant nightlife. Even at 4 o'clock in the morning the streets are teeming with revelers, some only part way through their night out, others going to partake of the traditional "chocolate y churros" (gloopy hot chocolate and deep-fried doughnut twists) before bed. Madrid is not a place to sit back and watch the world go by, but rather somewhere you should throw yourself into the melee!

The tour was decent but it didn’t matter what your allergies were - he orders the same thing every time regardless. A woman on our tour had strict food restrictions and the host didn’t care. We hoped for guidance in how to order tapas but that wasn’t part of it. No real opportunity for questions either.

We had a lovely group of people to join us in this adventure. If you do not like to try new foods, this might not be the tour for you. We were encouraged to eat the specialty of each restaurant we went into and Ivan made sure we had a variety of types of food from many regions. He also gave us a wonderful walking tour and pointed out interesting facts and offered tips on places to come back to. As stated in other reviews, the first tapas and cider/wine is part of the tour and paid for. The next three are paid for by the participants. Everyone threw in about $25 euro each and this covered everything. For all the food and drink, I think it was very reasonable plus it was excellent company. We happened to go on a Saturday night so the city was full of excitement. We parted ways with most of the group but Ivan walked with my daughter and I along with two other American students and safely got us to a nice club. He had a friend help get us in and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. This little extra gesture made our trip even more special and it’s what got the 5 stars! Thank you!

I felt that the tour was ok......biggest issue was that the places we went there needs to be a place where we can sit and enjoy the tapas and have a drink. 2 of the places we went to there was not place to sit so we had to stand and eat our tapas. The tour guide was new but very friendly and helpful.

I was by myself and this tour was perfect. I met nice people, had a fun dining experience, and learned a lot about Madrid. Highly recommend.

This was great!!! Our guide, James, an expat Scot was fantastic. He was funny and above all--very informative about Madrid. We ate so many different tapas 10-15 at least plus sidra and wines. I can't begin to say how much fun we had walking around Madrid seeing Madridlenos enjoying their traditional evening entertainment of stopping at bars, socializing, enjoying great food.

This was an excellent experience and definitely worth doing. Unfortunately it was torrential rain which could have spoiled it completely 3 people didnt turn up because of the weather but our guide, James, made it a good night. He had a loud deep voice which meant that as we walked along we could hear him clearly. The tapas ordered was varied and ,although I personally didnt like it all, was great to give it a go. James pointed out a number of things that we certainly wouldn't have found out for ourselves about traditions etc. We visited 4 places and sampled different foods in each one. Only the first stop price is included in the price but James organised food and drink in the other 3 and we all put in enough money to cover the cost. This suited us and worked well and wasnt expensive. We manage to find our way back to one tapas bar for our last evening and got great food!!
