About this activity
During your time in Spain, you’ll almost certainly try some of the typical tapas such as patatas bravas, and croquetas. This tour is aimed at those with adventurous taste buds, looking to dive deeper into the local tavernas in Madrid. Our three hour culinary tour in the company of a food expert, will take you to some of central Madrid’s hidden gems.
One of the best ways to explore madrileño customs, traditions, and society is through food. We’ll begin our discovery of tapas at a historic taverna where we’ll delve into the history of tapas and the folklore surrounding its origins. Over a caña (glass) of beer (a madrileños favorite for accompanying tapas) and boquerones (anchovies marinated in vinegar and a very typical tapa for which this taverna is known).
We’ll then hit the streets and make our way to other tavernas, learning about and sampling other local favorites, and their accompanying libations. We’ll touch upon the basics of tapas and other typical Madrileño dishes, how they are prepared, and why they’ve become local specialties.
Our tour will travel over the years, wrapping up with some contemporary tapas that reflect new trends in Spanish cuisine. There is no better city than Madrid, one of Spain's true cultural centers, in which to taste your way through the Spanish culinary phenomenon of tapas.
