Early-bird Birdwatching Excursions on Mallorca

Your Mallorca birding guide will pick you up at your hotel between 7am and 7:30am. Then the guide will drive you in a private vehicle to the starting point of your selected itinerary, or else agree on an alternative after consulting his/her best recommendations for the day. The guide will have bottled water and snacks available in the vehicle, a spotting scope, and, by prior arrangement, spare binoculars can be provided for the day with no extra charge.

High on the sights of many visiting birders are island near-endemics or regional specialities such as Balearic Warbler, Moltoni's Warbler, Balearic Shearwater,Scopoli's Shearwater and the striking Eleonara's Falcon. But there's a lot more: shoreline and wetland birds include species such as Audouin's Gull, the rare Marbled Teal and Red-knobbed Coot, Western Swamphen, Little Bittern, Purple Heron, Squacco Heron, Greater Flamingo, and Kentish Plover; reedbeds hold Moustached Warbler, Great Reed Warbler and Bluethroat in the non-breeding season; birds of prey include Black Vulture, Griffon Vulture, Booted Eagle, Red Kite, Montagu's Harrier, and Lesser Kestrel; and spread around the island are many treasure troves where your guide will know how to dig into and pull out birds such as European Bee-eater, Firecrest, Stone Curlew, Woodchat Shrike, Blue Rock Thrush, Sardinian Warbler, Dartford Warbler, Scop's Owl, Thekla Lark and others.

Of course, not all of the above species can be seen on a single day and at any one time of year, that is why your guide is friendly, approachable and communicative - he/she is well aware that part of the job is to consult your wishes and expectations and to assess you on how best to adjust them to reality.

After about 6 hours of guided birding around the surprisingly rich and varied landscapes of Mallorca your guide will drop you off at your hotel. By then you should have seen a rich array of birds and enjoyed a great day out, the only trouble is that such things are addictive, so you may be left wanting more!
