Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival - Your first taste of Málaga and the Costa del Sol -

You’ll start the adventure on the outskirts of historic Malaga, meeting at the airport, before driving through the beautiful Costa Tropical landscape to where you’ll have lunch. From here, you’ll either head down to the sun-kissed coastal resort town of Almuñecar and stay there overnight, or climb into the hills above Almuñecar to stay at accommodation in the scenic mountain village of Otivar, along the ancient road called Sospiro de los Moros (“sigh of the Moors”) that connects Almuñecar with Granada, 80 kilometres to the north.

You’ll have plenty of time to meet your fellow travellers, introduce yourselves and learn exactly how the tour’s going to work over the next few days.

Duration: 1 day

Location: MalagaAirportTaxi, 29016 Malaga Spain

Day 2 - Full Canyoning Day in The Rio Verde -

Today is canyoning day! You’ll start with an early breakfast in beautiful Almuñecar, followed by a 2-hour drive to the end of the Rio Verde canyon. You’ll get your first sight of the sunlit green waters, deep rock pools and thundering waterfalls of this exceptionally beautiful (and understandably popular) part of Andalusia, your home for the rest of the day. Activities will include rappelling and swimming, and jumps and slides will be optional. All equipment will be provided and training given in situ.

Duration: 1 day

Location: Sierra Nevada, Spain

Day 3 - Across The Roof of Spain -

Today you take to the mountains. After breakfast at your hotel in Capileira, you’ll transfer to Hoya del Portillo, at 2,200 metres above sea level. From there, your route is as follows: to Alto del Chorrillo o Mirador de Trevélez (2.700 metres); to Siete Lagunas (2900 metres), an area of lakes and green meadows with spectacular views of Mulhacén (Spain’s highest peak) and Alcazaba; then to Piedra El Yunque (2.850 metres), Rio Goterón y Juntillas, Cortijo del Horcajo (2180 metres) and finally a descent into the valley of Trevélez, where you’ll be spending the night.

Your accommodation is a cortijo (traditional cottage, with stylistic roots stretching back to the Roman villa), but if it’s a spectacularly clear night and you’d prefer to sleep out under the stars, we can set up a bivouac for you outside!

Duration: 1 day

Location: Sierra Nevada Ski Area, 4 Plaza de Andalucia Sierra Nevada, 18196, Sierra Nevada National Park Spain

Day 4 - A day exploring Trevélez-

After breakfast, you’ll say sad farewells to the cortijo Horcajo and take a leisurely stroll down the valley into the town that gives it its name - Trevélez. This beautiful settlement of whitewashed buildings in the traditional Alpujarras style is one of Europe’s highest towns above sea level (1,486 metres). It’s famous for the quality of its air-cured hams, and you’ll take a look at them up close with a visit to one of the ham-drying rooms, before trying some of the locally-made sausages.

Duration: 1 day

Location: Sierra Nevada, Spain

Day 5 - A free day in Málaga and farewell! -

The Sierra Nevada is behind us - you can be transferred from Trevélez directly to Malaga airport or just to Malaga so you have the ancient city to explore. Explore its history with visits to the Gibralfaro Castle, the Alcazaba and the ancient Roman Theatre - or follow the footsteps of former resident Pablo Picasso.

Duration: 1 day

Location: Malaga Cathedral, Calle Molina Lario 9, 29015 Malaga Spain
