About this activity
Experience the richness of Nicaragua’s Ometepe Island on this 12-hour tour, which combines culture and nature. After pickup at your Managua hotel, travel by air-conditioned coach for 2 hours through the lush Nicaraguan landscape to the port at San Jorge. Enjoy a 1-hour ferry ride on the lake. Once on Ometepe Island, explore the Ceibo Museum, famous for its pre-Columbian pieces that reflect the culture of the different ethnic groups that have inhabited Ometepe.

Next discover Charco Verde Nature Reserve, home to two majestic volcanoes — Concepción, which rises 5,282 feet (1,610 meters) above sea level, and Maderas, which reaches 4,396 feet (1,340 meters). Visit Ojo de Agua, a hidden area in a forest with two natural swimming pools, excellent for relaxing and taking a dip to cool off from the heat.

Indulge in an authentic local lunch at a restaurant. Finally, plant yourself for a while at Santo Domingo Beach, where you have free time to swim in Lake Nicaragua. Once finished, ride the ferry back to San Jorge and then settle in for the drive back to Managua, with drop-off at your hotel.

Very good day out. Walter, the guide, was a gentleman, very nice and very knowledgable. The boat trip was very comfortable despite the fact the wind was probably blowing force 7 on the way out! Lunch at the Paraiso Hotel overlooking the beach was great and the views amazing. The swim at the spring fed lagoon was a lovely way to refresh! Tips: You don't need hiking shoes or sneakers, just a swimsuit and some sunscreen!

In this tour, lots of time is spend in transit, but if you are short in time, it's the perfect introduction into the island.

Interesting tour but too much hype. Swimming was a joke, no good place to change clothes. Full of mosquitoes and poor sanitation.
