Meet a driver at your hotel in Mandalay for the 30-minute trip to Amarapura, the last royal capital of Myanmar.
The tour starts at the Mahagandayon Monastery, a famous Buddhist monastery where more than 1,000 monks live and study. From there, continue to the iconic U Bein Teak Bridge, which was built in 1782, and is the longest teak footbridge in the world. The next stop is Bagaya Monastery, known for its superb collection of Buddha statues.
After lunch in a local restaurant, continue to the former Royal Capital at Inwa, where you'll take a short boat trip and ride a horse cart through the surrounding countryside. Highlights of the sightseeing trip include the teak monastery of Bagaya Kyaung, famous for its impressive ornate woodcarvings and teak posts, and the former royal monastery temple known as Maha Aungmye Bonzan, completely built of brick and stucco.
Find great views of the surrounding area from the Inwa Tower, then head to the final stop of the day, Sagaing. Considered to be the living centre of Buddhism in Myanmar, Sagaing is home to hundreds of monasteries, and the town's temples reverberate with the echoes of cymbals, gongs, and Pagoda bells. There will be time to explore the most important temples and pagodas in the area.
